Pomme Picker

Afternoon folks. I couldn't help noticing the abundance of apple trees along the A20 between Lenham and Charing. Most people zip past these in their cars, oblivious to the free bounty available, content to pay through the nose at the supermarket for a bag of ropey granny smiths. Not me. Seeing the opportunity for a good scrump, I cobbled together this handy device below:

A design classic

Assembled from various household items quicker than you can say "how do you like them apples?", this little beauty is vital in getting the prime fruit from the uppermost boughs. It's basically a 5ft pole - I used a loft hatch opener, but a broom handle would suffice - grafted onto the uppermost half of a plastic bottle with some duct tape. Cut a V-shaped notch into the rim of the bottle (for stem severing) and voila - your mighty pomme picker is complete.
